I climbed something dangerous today
Like kinda dangerous, at least. Mostly dangerous, even. (not the horse, we just saw him lurking somewhere)
DC, Jagil, and I went to box in Roswell today- which mostly turned into catching him up on boxes he didn't already have that we'd got. We wound up going after a box that no one had gone after in a three years, I have to say I can kinda see why.
There's a certain amount of attrition in boxes. Like you hide one, everyone in the area goes after it, and after they have it the collection on it stops. Unless a visitor comes by or a new boxer shows up in the area it's kinda done.
So we wound up down at the Chattahoochee getting a box that hadn't been found in three years- not that anyone had gone for it or anything- and it involved this narrow trail over the river, which suddenly turned into rock cliffs over more rocks in the river below. Total death trap. And like I didn't already have a ton of knee injuries I was like, we have to get this one. DC sat it out after a bit and Jagil and I clambered on over the rocks, holding onto trees and things til we got back to actual ground again.
Found the first box, not the second, but by that point we were pretty much to Vickery Falls, which seemed like it should have been farther off. Lovely fall leaves though.
Other than that Nanowrimo is going really well. I didn't write anything today and yesterday I was already past the half way point, which is crazy over the top writing. Thanks scifi genre. So many words.

Nanowrimo Day 2
I've got a whopping 12,019 words so far on the story I'm working on this month. About three times as many as I should have today. The depressing parts of the story are certainly chugging along, I hope the pace keeps up when it gets happier.
I still feel like I'm not describing things enough. Like the character's faces or trees. I want to go check on that but I'm not supposed to edit at this point or I'll just get bogged down. It's been very much a sort of post-apocalyptic novel so far, edging into scifi. Hopefully once it's full on scifi it'll still be just as easy to write.

Tumblr letterboxing
Found this on tumblr, when I was searching letterboxing and checking out stamps. I'm still not sure what to make of his review of the event he went to. Everyone I've met is lovely so far.

Chattanooga
Jagil and I went to Chattanooga Wednesday. It was fun to finally box out of state- more fun just to spend the day together doing stuff. It was a lot colder than we expected, too. I need to bring an actual wool hat next time- instead of acrylic- and my Rose Tyler gloves did a good job for my hands, but not my fingers. We started at the Tellus Museum, which I've never actually been to. Need to get on that.
Next we went to the riverfront, which was cold and windy and beautiful. We started after a box and gave up after an hour or two. However we solved the clues it looked like it was going to be a nightmare getting to it. Try again later.

Then we went to Greenway Farm Park which was a lot bigger than we thought. There's a farm and some kind of occult looking tennis court- there were these stone pillars around it that made me think "Blood Stone Circle"- and a quarry and some tough hills. The quarry was great, never hiked in one before and besides all the danger signs it was really lovely. Not the best day count-wise but it was fun to travel and solve different clues and see different stamp art. Planted five boxes.

This had to be the best sign in the park. Squirrels live in houses, too.
And then we wound up going to a burger place- Urban Stack- which was pretty good. We had three different waiters- all cute- and they had a whiskey menu the size of the regular menu. I could have killed for a Stongbow but all they had was Woodchuck and I wasn't feeling something sweet right then so oh well. Had a great steakhouse burger and the mac and cheese was alright. Jagil had the sweet potato fries which were crisp as hell. I had to take pictures of a few of the drinks on the menu, just because.
And our last waiter, the one that looked all lumberjack-y brought me this much creamer and sugar when I joked I was going to have eight cups of coffee with my meal.

Scenery
Taken the first night I went Letterboxing.

Red Top Mountain, Cartersville, Georgia.
One of the parks near Atlanta, can't think which right now. Abandoned mill buildings.
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield, Burnt Hickory side.
Cemetery humor, I guess. I realize it's probably slave graves or no markers, but I was looking for a box right then and it can't be over there, that's full.
Wild Animals While Letterboxing
I've only been letterboxing since April 2013 so it's been a pretty good start to the hobby- I'm at almost three hundred boxes now. In that time I've spent a lot more time in the woods than I have before. I hiked for exercise mostly, but never anything like this. I tried geocaching once and wasn't impressed. Seemed like a lot of work for McDonald's toys. Since April I've seen a good bit of woodland creatures, too. Mostly squirrels and chipmunks, but a few other, unsettling things.
Saw this guy several times, in the same spot on Kennesaw Mountain. And this in Bells Ferry Park. First of many, many scorpions on letterboxes. Weird that I'd never actually seen one in the wild until recently- now I think I've seen about ten.
And this guy was up at Red Top Mountain, Cartersville, Georgia.
